the Royal college of surgeons
The History of the Royal College of Surgeons of England dates back to the 16th century. Today the College enables surgeons to achieve and maintain the highest standards of surgical practice and patient care through education, research and training.
In 2004 we were awarded the contract to provide general cleaning and residential cleaning to the Royal College of Surgeons.
The contract covered the college’s main building in central London and their accommodation facilities at the adjoining Nuffield College.
One of the college’s main objectives for this contract was to reduce costs without sacrificing quality of service. A total of 60 incumbent staff transferred to our payroll in accordance with our action plan which was agreed with the college prior to contract commencement. This action plan laid out timescales and detailed the process Ocean would use to meet the college’s budgetary requirements without reducing in the standard of cleaning.
Our operating systems included defined duties for all Cleaning Operatives, providing set structures and routines for all staff. This proved to be a great benefit to our staff; particularly daytime Operatives who had previously been working without the benefit of such a plan.
Within three months we met our staffing plan, improved the overall service for the client and had a controlled day team. This has been a successful contract for both parties at a significantly reduce price.
Ocean’s ability to provide consistent service at reduced cost resulted in the contract being re-awarded in 2004 for a period of three years, with a subsequent extension being granted in 2007.
The contract was again re-awarded to Ocean in 2010 for a further five years. The new contract included taking over the in-house security operation – which is active 24 hours a day, 365 days a year – over the course of five years. We have established a plan to reduce security costs by 15% over this period.
