Julie Spavins, Financial Director
Julie joined Ocean in 1993, three years after qualifying as an accountant. Her initial role was Company Accountant and her considerable experience in this field proved a great benefit to Ocean as she worked to manage all financial and administrative matters.
In 1996 Julie became Ocean’s Company Secretary and joined the Board of Directors.
She was promoted to her current role of Financial Director in 2001. Besides the obvious responsibility for the company’s books, records, cashflow and profitability, one of her major responsibilities in this position has been as Management Representative for ISO 9001. During her time with Ocean she has overseen the implementation of the company’s management system which provides indispensable back-up support to our Operations Team. This accreditation then lead naturally to the system improvements and additional award of the coveted OHSAS 18001 Health and Safety accreditation and ISO 14001 Environmental Management System accreditation.
Julie’s other key responsibility is personnel – a considerable task in an organisation that employs over 2,000 people. Her key role in the continued progress of the company and its people has resulted in Ocean being recognised as an Investor in People, and various internal and external training programs to support all levels of staff.
In June 2009 Ocean Contract Cleaning Ltd became a subsidiary of Ocean Group Holdings Ltd. This presented a number of new challenges to the finance department such as increasing levels of staffing, procurement and the acquisition of our new security division. However, Julie has made sure she and her team have risen to these challenges time after time, enabling us to provide even greater service to our customers.
She is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants.
